How to handle product variants
You can approach variants using multiple methods.
To any existing product there can be Alternatives (similar or related products) assigned. All such alternatives will be listed at the bottom of the product’s detail. The first method is simplest and requires no complicated settings.
How do I set alternatives and related products?
- Log in to your Digimadi account.
- Click Choose project in top right corner.
- Pick relevant project from the rollout menu.
- Open the Products application.
- Edit the product you want to assign alternatives to.
- Go to the Related / Alternative tab.
- Input the code or name of the product you want to add.
- If you wish for this connection to be one-way only you can enable this option in Product application settings by checking the Forbid two-way connection of alternative/related products iun the General section.
Another possible method is the usage of dial sets. Both in administration and web you’ll have one product however the customer will be able to pick specific dials. This gives the customer to specify parameters, but can’t be used when using varying prices or stock numbers.
How do I configure dials?
- Add the dial group in the Application settings – Products – Dial.
- Add specific dial (e.g. colours), set type as checkbox (for 0 or more choices), radio button or select (for one choice only).
- You can add values to specific dials (e.g. red, blue)
- When editing product go to the Parameter tab and pick what dials will be displayed to the customers.
The last method is switching whole e-shop to variant mode. Each product has to be added as parent (product shown in searches) and at least one variant has to be assigned (the product customers will buy). Your customers therefore buy the variants that have vary in details like name, price or availability.
How to use product variants?
- Enable the Use product variants in the Application settings – Products – General.
- Add parent product and fill in all the details you want to be shown on web.
- Set code 1 and leave code 2 field blank.
- Add individual variants – set parent’s code 1 to product variant code 2 field. No two variants can have same code 1.
- Set remaining details to the variant – name, price and availability are required.
- Repeat 2 - 5 to all your products.
